  Henry Harkey Elected Scout Council President

Henry A. Harkey, a business and estate planning attorney with Harkey Lambeth, LLP, in Charlotte, N.C., has been elected president of the Mecklenburg County Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Harkey will serve a two-year term as president, ending in 2011. He assumes the role after serving as council commissioner of the Mecklenburg County Council following 26 years of leadership to Troop 55 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. While in that leadership role as an assistant scout master starting in 1975 and scoutmaster from 1991 until 2001, Harkey received the Silver Beaver Award, which recognizes outstanding volunteer service at the local council level. Harkey joined scouting in 1957 at Myers Park Presbyterian and earned both the God and Country Award and the Eagle Scout Award.

Harkey has a long history of service to the local business, educational and civic community. Along with his law practice, he is the co-founder and owner of Morehead Properties, Inc. a local commercial real estate development firm. In 1991, he and his brother, Averill Harkey, helped organize Park Meridian Bank for which he served as chairman of the board of directors until the bank was sold in 2001. Harkey is a former chairman of the board of trustees of Charlotte Country Day School, a former chairman of the board of Alexander Youth Network, and also served on the executive committee of the Mecklenburg County Bar. He is an elder in the Presbyterian Church USA and a former clerk of session at Myers Park Presbyterian Church.

Harkey is married to Catherine Ward Harkey and they have two adult sons, both Eagle Scouts.
